The Italian Scientific Association for Immunodeficiencies ImmunITA is a non-profit organisation founded in 2024
by a group of patients, family members, doctors, geneticists and researchers committed to advancing knowledge in the field of primary and secondary immunodeficiencies. The organisation promotes scientific research into the causes, mechanisms and treatment of these disorders, develops educational programmes and encourages collaboration between patients and their families with clinicians, health professionals and researchers involved in the management of these disorders.
ImmunITA is made up of freely associated citizens; it is a non-partisan, non-political organisation that pursues exclusively social, cultural and scientific objectives. The organisation ensures the maximum participation of its members in the activities and decisions of ImmunITA through democratic elections of social positions with limited terms.
Congenital immunodeficiencies are rare diseases caused by the loss or dysfunction of one or more immune system components due to a genetic defect.
In the last twenty years, the number of congenital immunodeficiencies has grown exponentially, identifying approximately 500 different conditions, each requiring increasingly precise therapies. Meanwhile, the number of individuals at risk of developing acquired immunodeficiency has increased due to the expanded use of immunomodulating therapies in multiple fields, ranging from oncology to rheumatology.
Our mission is to improve the knowledge, diagnosis, treatment, and understanding of immunodeficiencies through research, education, dissemination, and the promotion of guidelines for the clinical management of patients.
ImmunITA is committed to collaborating with healthcare professionals, patient organisations, related scientific societies, companies, and government agencies to achieve these goals.
